Israel: Capernaum
The city of Capernaum was built on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, about two miles west of the Jordan River. Though this ancient town is not mentioned by name in the Old Testament, it is referred to as our Lord's own city (Matt. 9:1), for it became the center of His Galilean work and ministry.
Five men from Capernaum (Peter, Andrew, James, John and Matthew) were called by the Lord to be His apostles.
Among the excavations at Capernaum you will find a house which some claim originally belonged to Simon Peter.
The synagogue at Capernaum is not the one where Jesus preached, but is likely to lave been built on the same site.
